We arrived in London and promptly we got on the Heathrow Express and went to downtown or central London. This is a short trip on a rather expensive train (£46 or $69 for two round trips) that was quite empty. Here we are waiting for the train.
The 15 minute train ride went quickly, ending at Paddington Station. We then took a taxi to Herrod's department store. Here is one of the meat counters that features hare, quail, squab, pigeon, and other assorted game. Wild!
Many of the fine establishments in Central London had men in tophats to greet people. Lots of people wear black.
Another cab took us around the downtown sights, such as Big Ben...
... and Buckingham Palace.
We returned to the airport, and took our next flight from London to Munich. After we crossed the English Channel we encountered land. I asked the steward where we were (this flight did not have channel 12) and he said we were over the coast of Belgium. Imagine that: "If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium!" And it was Tuesday! (This was a movie made in 1969 with Suzanne Pleshette and Ian McShane where they see a different country every day on a mad whirlwind tour of Europe.)
I have since received an email from Edmund Vermeulen of the Netherlands who informs me that this city is Oostende, Belgium.
