Leaving Grado we drove north past Udine on the A23 and approached the Austrian Alps, which reminded us a lot of the mountains of the western US.
We stopped at Villach, where we found this McDonalds that had free wireless internet. It was to be the only time in our trip where we reconnected with the world. We had been gone for ten days and had no telephone, no internet, no texting, no newspapers, no TV. We quickly checked in with our family by sending an email or two. We transferred some money to our kids.
The McDonalds had some tasty BBQ wings that we have not seen elsewhere. They were very good.
A view along the E55 road heading to Salzburg.
Our car at a rest stop en route.
We were headed to Salzburg but since we had been there and the city was crowded, we continued West on E52 and saw beautiful fields.
We ended up stopping at the Precise Hotel Panorama City in Rosenheim.
We walked to this Platz looking for dinner.
We found a nice dinner and large drinks at the Ludwighof. Beth had lamb, and I ordered steak, but it sure tasted like liver. The sides were good, and a large drink with ice was so welcome.
On Tuesday the 12th we left Rosenheim but first went back to the Platz.
A new VW Scirocco.
We bought some fabric for our neighbor Julie. She likes to make doll clothes. This store had beautiful dresses as well.
